Do I need a DBS check?

The association of Professional Dog Walkers and Sitters promote the use of the DBS checks as this give some reassurance to our members clients that they are in safe hands when looking for dog walkers and dog sitters. We believe that the basic DBS check would be adequate for our industry.

What is a DBS Check?

A DBS check formerly known as a CBR check is a criminal background check which is available through the goverment web site, there are 3 types of DBS checks these are known as the basic check, standard check and enhanced check. Each of these checks represent different levels of how thorough the checks are based on what is required from them, for example a teacher would have to apply for the enhanced check.

APDWS would advise that you apply for your DBS check directly through the government website and not through a third party as these can prove expensive. The application process is quite simple and can be all performed online. Currently the the disclosure and baring service are charging £18 for a basic check,
